Education, Career Highlights, and More

Dr. Marissa Tenenbaum, MD

Career Summary

Since joining the faculty at Washington University in the department of surgery, I have maintained a focus on breast reconstruction and cosmetic surgery of the face, breast, and body. My practice has grown each year across every metric. I have been honored to be selected by my peers in plastic surgery as a Best Doctor for the past eight years. My West County Plastic Surgeons practice as a whole has also grown tremendously since we began this endeavor in 2009. This clinical practice has been my top priority and focus. I continue to have one of the largest cosmetic practices in the area while maintaining a completely academic focus.

During this time I have also studied and published in the realm of clinical outcomes for women with breast cancer, as well as patients undergoing cosmetic surgery. I have been awarded grant funding to study these topics, and this area of clinical research continues to grow. I also began as the assistant program director several years ago, and now I have served as the program director for both of our residency programs for more than four years. I have seen our programs grow from six residents to 18 residents and have implemented many new ideas and technologies and have kept in line with the increasing requirements of the ACGME and plastic surgery RRC. My leadership as program director, as well as in my personal practice, has significantly grown the residents’ experience with cosmetic surgery. We now consider cosmetic surgery to be a significant strength of our program. Our residents continue to get their top choice fellowships, and we continue to recruit some of the brightest medical students in the country.
