Meet Dr. Terry Myckatyn

Dr. Terry Myckatyn joined the Washington University School of Medicine's Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in 2003. He is board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and is also a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Dr. Myckatyn's practice focuses on cosmetic surgery and breast reconstruction. He also has experience with a breadth of plastic surgery procedures.
Dr. Myckatyn has won several prestigious awards in the field of plastic surgery, including the John E. Hoopes Academic Scholar award from the American Association of Plastic Surgeons (2006-2008), the C. James Carrico Faculty Research Fellowship award from the American College of Surgeons, and the Bernard G. Sarnat award from the Plastic Surgery Foundation (2017). Dr. Myckatyn is also the Midwest representative of the Ethics Committee of the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, and on the editorial board of the Aesthetic Surgery Journal. In addition, Dr. Myckatyn is the former president of the Saint Louis Association of Plastic Surgeons (SLAPS), is co-chair of the grant review committee for the Plastic Surgery Foundation, and serves on several committees for Barnes Hospital, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), and the prestigious American Association of Plastic Surgery (AAPS).
Dr. Myckatyn is a professor of plastic and reconstructive surgery and is the director of cosmetic and breast plastic surgery at Washington University School of Medicine. Since 2008, Dr. Myckatyn has been recognized by his peers as one of the "Best Doctors in St. Louis" and "Best Doctors in America" by Best Doctors, Inc, and as a "Top Doctor" by Castle Connolly Limited. Born and raised in Vancouver, Canada, Dr. Myckatyn completed an honors bachelor of science program in human physiology, and then earned his doctorate of medicine at the University of British Columbia. He completed his plastic surgery residency and fellowship training at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. He is the author of more than 100 peer-reviewed research articles and textbook chapters and has been a featured presenter at national and international plastic surgical and medical conferences.

Currently, Dr. Myckatyn is the principle investigator of six trials listed on clinicaltrial.gov. His research focuses on improving outcomes following cosmetic or breast reconstruction surgery, reducing pain following breast reconstruction, limiting bacterial contamination and studying the role of bacterial biofilms in breast implant surgery, and assessing vaginal health following pregnancy or breast cancer therapy. Dr. Myckatyn has been a lecturer on topics related to cosmetic surgery and breast reconstruction in several prestigious meetings in plastic surgery held in New York City, Chicago, Atlanta, and Santa Fe.
